With temperatures set to rise over the next few days, it’s important to take extra care if you are living with a neurological condition.

Hot weather can affect people in different ways, so we’ve put together some practical tips from our community and our Helpline neuro nurses to help you stay safe and comfortable.

Remember to:

๐Ÿ’ง Stay hydrated โ€“ Drink plenty of water throughout the day and keep a bottle of water with you whenever you go out.

โฐ Avoid the hottest part of the day โ€“ If possible, stay indoors between 12.30pm and 4.00pm. Plan activities for the early morning or later in the evening when it’s cooler.

๐Ÿ’จ Keep cool โ€“ Use a fan, spend time in air-conditioned spaces where possible, and wear lightweight, loose-fitting, light-coloured clothing.

๐Ÿ›‘ Listen to your body โ€“ If you feel weak, dizzy or overheated, move to a cool, shaded place, rest, and let someone know how you’re feeling.

๐Ÿ’Š Store medication safely โ€“ Keep your medication in a cool place, out of direct sunlight, and take it as prescribed. If you’re unsure about storage requirements, check the patient information leaflet or speak to your pharmacist.

๐Ÿก Keep your home cool โ€“ Close curtains, blinds, windows and doors during the hottest part of the day. Open windows early in the morning or later in the evening when the outside air is cooler.
