Are you an unpaid carer? Have your say on the future of Carer’s Allowance
The Department for Work and Pensions (DWP) is inviting unpaid carers to share their experiences and views as part of a new call for evidence on Carer’s Allowance.
Many people affected by neurological conditions rely on family members, friends and loved ones for care and support. If you are an unpaid carer, this is an opportunity to share your experiences and help inform future thinking about how Carer’s Allowance could work.
What is the call for evidence about?
Carer’s Allowance provides financial support to eligible people in England and Wales who spend at least 35 hours a week caring for someone.
The Government is looking at how Carer’s Allowance could be modernised, particularly to better reflect the ways people balance caring responsibilities with paid employment.
The call for evidence is seeking views on how the system could:
- reflect modern patterns of care, work and earnings
- better support carers to balance paid work and caring responsibilities
- be clearer and easier to understand
- remain fair and sustainable.
The DWP is also particularly interested in experiences of the Carer’s Allowance earnings limit, including how earnings are treated when they fluctuate from week to week.
Why your experience matters
Caring for someone affected by a neurological condition can involve many different responsibilities, from providing practical and emotional support to helping someone manage appointments, treatment and changes to everyday life.
We know that carers can be an incredibly important source of support for people affected by neurological conditions.
Sharing your experience through this call for evidence is an opportunity to help the Government better understand the realities of combining caring responsibilities, employment and financial support.
Responses will be used by the DWP to help shape future policy thinking about Carer’s Allowance.

The call for evidence is also available in a range of accessible formats, including Easy Read, British Sign Language (BSL), audio, Braille, large print and Welsh. Responses can also be submitted by email or post.
The deadline to respond is 11:59pm on Tuesday 18 August 2026.
