New Vascular malformations booklet, plus three new fact sheets

20 December 2010

Vascular malformations of the brain is the latest booklet to be published by the Brain and Spine Foundation. It's published today, alongside three new fact sheets on Clinical trials, Multiple sclerosis and Parkinson's disease.

Vascular malformations (abnormal arrangements of some of the blood vessels in the head) are rare (affecting less than 1% of the population), and symptoms and treatments depend on the type of malformation, its position and size.

The new booklet is unique in that it provides information on all the different types of vascular malformation - including cavernous malformations (cavernomas), arteriovenous malformations (AVMs) and developmental venous anomalies (venous malformations). (The Foundation was grateful for input and expertise from Cavernoma Alliance UK and AVM Support UK when compiling the booklet).

The fact sheets on MS and Parkinson's disease have been updated and rewritten, while Clinical trials is a new publication, outlining what you should know if you are considering taking part in a trial.

All the new publications, which are available for free, have been produced as part of the Foundation's Big Lottery funded Information Project.
