New patient information series launched

26 May 2009

Cover of Subarachnoid haemorrhage booklet A new series of booklets and fact sheets has been launched by the Brain & Spine Foundation, providing expert medical information to people affected by neurological disorders.

The information materials aim to provide answers to frequently asked questions on a whole range of neurological problems in a patient-friendly format.

The first booklet covers subarachnoid haemorrhage and there are five fact sheets on associated conditions or procedures.

The range is based on the latest medical and research evidence but is written primarily for patients and carers and so will use simple language and illustration to help the communication of issues which can often be quite complex.

The booklets are available as downloads or as readable documents on this website, as well as from the Brain & Spine Helpline which is operated by neuroscience nurses (Freephone 0808 808 1000).

Subarachnoid haemorrhages are an uncommon form of stroke but the consequences are often severe for the 8000 people each year who are affected. The booklet provides information on the acute stage, what happens in hospital, tests and investigations and possible treatments. It also provides information on recovery, common symptoms and on returning to everyday activities.

The associated fact sheets published with the booklet are also available on the website and from the Brain & Spine Helpline:
