14 May 2009
If you are affected by dystonia, or would like to know more about the condition, you may be interested to know that 9 - 16 May 2009 is Dystonia Awareness Week.
Dystonia, a neurological movement disorder, causes involuntary muscle contractions which lead the affected parts of the body to develop abnormal movements or postures, with or without tremor. There are estimated to be 40,000 people living with dystonia in the UK.
The Dystonia Society is a membership organisation supporting people affected by dystonia via a newsletter, helpline and local support groups.
On Saturday 16 May, the Society will be holding a 25 mile sponsored Bike Ride around Rutland Water. It is suitable for all ages and levels of fitness. If you would like to take part, please contact Ann Dedman on 0207 793 3659 or see the Dystonia Society website, www.dystonia.org.uk
