Changing Places, Changing Lives: campaign for fully accessible toilets
22 June 2009
Do you, or does someone you care for, have problems using standard accessible toilets? For many people with spinal injuries or other disabilities, standard disabled loos aren't sufficient for their needs.
A Changing Places toilet is different to a standard accessible toilet. It is a room equipped with an adjustable changing bench and a hoist to allow people to use the toilet with assistance or have their continence pads changed. However, there are only around 85 such toilets available to the public in the UK.
This week Mencap, the organisation for people with learning disabilities, is promoting the Changing Places campaign for fully accessible toilets to be installed in all big public places. The Brain and Spine Foundation is a supporter of the Changing Places campaign.
