Cerebellar stroke: a patient's story

11 October 2010

"When a door closes another door opens." That's the way John D'Arcy, who had a stroke at the age of 39, approaches his life today.

John, who had a cerebellar stroke in 2000, is the founder of Stroke Survivors, a website and forum for people who have had a stroke, and in particular, people who have had cerebellar strokes.

"10 years later I look upon life with a different attitude," says John, who was an HGV driver prior to his stroke, and has since trained to become a web developer.

"I sometimes stagger when I walk, I have poor co-ordination and my speech is sometimes slurred especially when I am tired, I will never win any awards for typing, but I guess you get out what you put in."
