Celebrating the work of the Brain and Spine helpline nurses on International Nurses' Day
12 May 2010
Today is International Nurses' Day, when nurses are given special recognition for the often unsung work that they do. So the Brain and Spine Foundation would like to highlight the work of our Helpline nurses, who help people affected by neurological conditions in the UK.
The neuroscience nurses who staff the helpline have a varied workload. They help callers with questions about all brain and spine conditions, from fairly common to the very rare, and can offer information and support on any medical or related social and emotional issues of concern.
Helpline users may want to find about more about their condition, about an impending investigation, about their symptoms or simply about something their doctor said to them that they did not understand.
People who have spoken to the helpline nurses, or had contact them by email or post, often comment on what a positive experience they had.
"On the occasions I have used the helpline I have always received warm empathetic advice, which has been extremely helpful and comforting," says one user.
"I find this is about the best medical helpline there is. Staff seem very well equipped to comment on all types of problem," says another.
This Nurses' Day, we're highlighting the work of the nurses on our helpline. If you know a nurse, why not show them how much you appreciate what they do?
