Brain and Spine appoint new Chairman
25 May 2005
Said Mr Rose, "The Foundation is firmly established as an organisation that can help to improve the quality of life for people affected by conditions such as brain tumours, meningitis, sub-arachnoid haemorrhages and back disorders. Peter Cardy, who has an exceptional record of galvanising medical charities and encouraging productive collaborations, will ensure that it is at the forefront of help for the millions of people affected by these conditions seeking to get the treatment and services they need,"
Peter Cardy, who is chief executive of Macmillan Cancer Relief, said; "I am privileged to be stepping into the shoes of Jeffrey Rose, who has overseen a transformation of the Foundation into the active and influential organisation it is today. During the years that I was chief executive of the Motor Neurone Disease Association and then the MS Society, I saw at first hand the impact these devastating conditions have on the lives of the people affected and the difference that responsive services, care and support provided by patient organisations can make.
"I welcome the opportunity to join the Foundation at a pivotal time in its development and to help it maximise on the opportunities presented by the new National Service Framework for long-term conditions and its own pioneering work with children affected by brain and spine conditions."
Brain and Spine Foundation chief executive, Maggie Alexander said: "Peter Cardy has arguably done more to raise awareness of the needs of people with neurological and other long-term conditions than any other person in the UK. We are extraordinarily fortunate that he has agreed to accept this appointment."
