Brain and Spine launch new Website
29 July 2005
The website (www.brainandspine.org.uk) gives answers to frequently-asked questions on a whole range of neurological problems – from cancer to meningitis, Parkinson’s, epilepsy and dizziness – and also enables sufferers and their carers to download booklets published by the Brain and Spine Foundation.
The Brain & Spine Foundation’s previous website received 96,000 hits and supplied 2,000 downloaded booklets a month. The new site is expected to generate a 50 per cent increase in traffic to the Foundation’s helpline, which is staffed by four healthcare professionals handling 3,000 enquiries a year.
According to Maggie Alexander, the Foundation’s chief executive, there are 8m people in Britain who are affected by neurological disorders and 600,000 diagnosed with a neurological condition each year. “Neurological problems comprise 8.4 per cent of the country’s total health and social service budget”, she says. “The Brain & Spine Foundation is a charity aiming to help improve the quality of life for as many of these people as possible. Our website provides a tremendously cost-effective front-line service for those whose lives are disrupted by neurological disorders”.
