Brain and Spine awarded Roald Dahl grant for teenage brain injury project
07 July 2005
The Brain and Spine Foundation and Acquire have been awarded a Roald Dahl Foundation grant to develop and pilot a training session and resources for Educational Psychologists on the subject of acquired brain injury in children.
Acquired brain injury (ABI) is the most common cause of disability in childhood in western countries yet there is a desperate shortage in educational provision for young people with ABI. Following injury, children often return to schools that cannot meet their needs.
The resources are currently being developed by leading educational psychologist, Sue Walker. The package will be used by educational psychologists in conjunction with teachers and special educational needs coordinators to influence how ABI is managed in schools. A better understanding of the impact of ABI in the classroom will enable teachers to provide appropriate teaching strategies and support.
