Big Lottery Fund support for the Brain and Spine Helpline
22 February 2008
People with a wide range of neurological conditions will benefit from an extended Helpline service operated by the Brain and Spine Foundation thanks to a grant of £264,350 from the Big Lottery Fund. The Foundation plans to expand its existing helpline service from 20 hours per week, employ new specialist staff to increase call capacity and update its popular range of booklets and information sheets.
The charity provides support and advice regarding a wide variety of neurological symptoms and conditions that affect millions of people and are often complex for patients and carers to understand.
Ken Walker, Chief Executive of the Brain and Spine Foundation said: ‘’With over 200 different conditions which can affect the brain or the spine, thousands of people every year seek information and support. We know that many more people affected by neurological conditions would find our services useful and this grant will give us the capability to extend and improve those facilities so that people with concerns over symptoms, impending investigations or relatively rare conditions can be better supported.’’
