Awareness raising - can you help us?

16 July 2009

The Brain and Spine Foundation is looking for people affected by particular neurological conditions or symptoms to help us by telling their stories.

Why do we want to hear from you?

We are often approached by journalists wanting a personal angle on a medical story. People's own experiences can help to "humanise" information about medical conditions, and raise public awareness and interest.

It is also valuable for people who have neurological conditions to be able to read about others who have gone through something similar, so we are always looking for people to feature on the Patients' Perspective section on our website.

What would it involve?

If you would be willing to help us by sharing your experiences, please contact us by email at info@brainandspine.org.uk. We'll get back to you and ask a few questions, and we would then keep your details on file. If we receive any enquiries from the media, we would contact you to ask if you would like to talk to them, or if we could pass on your story.

It will be entirely up to you how involved you want to be. We promise that we will never give any details to the media without your consent, and that we will ask you first, every single time. You would not be committed in any way to appearing in any publication or website that you do not want to appear in, and you would be able to anonymise your details if you prefer.

What stories are we looking for?

We are particularly looking for stories about:
  • Dizziness and / or balance problems
  • Aneurysms / subarachnoid haemorrhage
  • Memory problems following a brain injury
  • Common neurological issues e.g. diagnosis / scans

However, anyone else who has been affected by any neurological condition or symptoms is welcome to contact us too.

What should I do next?

If you'd be interested in helping us, please send an email to info@brainandspine.org.uk. We'll get back to you within a few days to ask you about yourself, and you'll get the chance to tell us exactly how you would like your story to be used.
