The human brain is extremely sensitive to any interruption to the flow of blood carrying oxygen and nutrients. If the blood supply to a region of the brain is blocked for any length of time, irreversible brain damage will result. This is known as a stroke. This project will examine the mechanisms of cell death in stroke and explore possibilities for drug action to reduce this effect.
