A major appeal was launched in March 1995 in Scotland after the ex-Scotland International and Glasgow Rangers footballer, Davie Cooper, died of a sub-arachnoid haemorrhage at the age of 38. The £250,000 raised by Daily Record readers and Cooper fans funded a pioneering Glasgow and Edinburgh based project to study the incidence of intracranial aneurysms and ways to detect them.
