Examination of the Cranial Nerves: Video and tutor pack

An introduction to neuroanatomy, clinical examination and abnormal function in cranial nerves

Introduction

by Dr David Perkin, Consultant Neurologist, West London Neurosciences Centre, Charing Cross Hospital.
The video and accompanying tutor’s pack can be used both to support neurology lectures and by medical students as a self-teaching aid. Using animated diagrams, MRI scans, views of the skull and spinal column and shots of dissected brain, a résumé of cranial nerve neuroanatomy is provided.

Each section, covering a particular nerve, includes an account of the examination of that nerve which both illustrates the recommended techniques, while warning of unsatisfactory methods of examination that should be avoided.

Examples of abnormal function in each system are provided together with information on how they can best be demonstrated.
