Craniotomy

A guide for patients and carers

Introduction

Written by Mr John Sutcliffe, Consultant Neurosurgeon and Mr Ali Nader-Sapahi, Specialist Registrar in Neurosurgery, with contributions from Mr Conor Mallucci, Consultant Neurosurgeon at the Walton Centre for Neurology & Neurosurgery and Mr Andrew Jarvie.

This booklet is intended to provide general information about the surgical procedure known as craniotomy. It has been written to answer some of the questions asked by people who will be having a craniotomy, as well as for their families and carers.

However, because this procedure affects each person differently, it is important that you speak to the doctor or nurse who is looking after you since they are in a position to offer advice and information to meet your own specific needs.
