Annual Audit of Information Provision
Here is a checklist for performing an annual audit of information provision:
- Do all staff know where to access information materials on the conditions most commonly seen in the department?
- Do all staff know where to access information materials about the most common procedures carried out in the department or that the department refers people to?
- Do all staff know where to access information about less common conditions (for example, myasthenia gravis, PSP)?
- Is all information held in a printed form in the department accurate and up to date?
- Is all the information held in a printed form regularly given out to patients / carers? If not, why not and what action needs to be taken? (It may need to be revised, replaced. It may have become obsolete. It may only be used in rare cases and need to be checked for accuracy and that it is still up to date).
- Are there gaps in access to information? Are there regular information requests that staff find difficult to meet?
- Are there difficulties in accessing information due to hard or software support or equipment?
- Do all staff know local details of support groups that cover the most common conditions seen in the department?
- Do all staff know where to access emotional support for people affected by neurological conditions?
- Do all staff know where to access local rehabilitation services and complementary therapy e.g. hydrotherapy?
- Do all staff know where to access support for carers locally?
- What staff training has been undertaken during the year in communication or the provision of information?
- What training needs are outstanding in this respect?
- Are all staff clear of their roles in relation to the provision of information?
- Is the local information template / database up to date?
