Some frequently asked questions about Headstrong

Why do I or my child need to get involved in Headstrong projects?
We want to listen to your ideas because it is the best way to find out what is needed. That means you as parents are the best people to tell us what you and your family would need or like. You are under no obligation to be involved but your time and feedback will:

Help us to produce better information in the future (so new publications are user friendly and relevant)
Ensure the work and project we undertake are useful and relevant to children and their families
Help us to find funding and resources for the project

What sort of things can we do?
There are lots of different ways we are involving people in our work, we will talk to you about what is best for you and you child. If you can’t make it to our fun days we can visit you somewhere you feel comfortable such as at home, at a hospital, a friends, a restaurant or a coffee shop.

My child won’t understand…why do they need to be involved too?
Your child is under no obligation to take parting any Headstrong activity; but they are the people that Headstrong projects are designed for and their input can add valuable insights for our future work. We do our best to involve children in a variety of ways to allow everyone to express their views. We can talk to you about how we can involve you and your child.

Is this going to cost money? And what if we need special equipment or support to take part?
The foundation will not charge you for participating in any parts of the project or events. In some circumstances we can assist with travel and other reasonable costs. We are able to facilitate you and your child’s needs so please call us and talk to us about what support or equipment you will require to take part.

How will you make sure my child stays safe?
We have a full child protection policy and it is updated every year. All staff (including volunteers) who have contact with children are:

Criminal Records Bureau (CRB) checked
Have undergone NSPCC Child Protection training

What if I, or my child, get involved then change our minds?
You can withdraw from participating at any time and you don’t need to give us a reason.
