Information helps brain tumour patients cope
25 October 2005
New research published in the British Journal of Neuroscience Nursing demonstrates that providing information to patients with newly diagnosed brain tumours (about their conditions) helps them cope with their diagnosis.
The purpose of the research (which was conducted at the Royal Victoria Hospital in Belfast, Northern Ireland) was to explore patients' experience of receiving information after being diagnosed with a brain tumour, with a specific focus on information given by nurses.
The findings reveal that informational support is essential to enhance a patient's ability to cope with the diagnosis. This study also highlights the need for improvement in the accuracy of information given to patients in the ward.
