What causes dizziness?
There are many conditions which can affect your balance including an ear infection, head injury, a side effect of medication (for example some antidepressants), cardiac (heart) conditions and low/high blood pressure. They are sometimes grouped in to the following categories:
- Peripheral vestibular disorder: a disturbance in the labyrinth (inner ear)
- Central vestibular disorder: a problem in the brain or its connecting nerves
- Systemic disorder: a problem of the body except the head and brain
- Vascular disorder or blood flow problems
