How it all adds up
1. Collections at local sports matches – can raise £500 plus
You will need to get a group of about 10 people together. Contact any sports clubs in your area and ask them if you can do a collection at the start, half time and the end. If they agree then ask if they would mention it in the programme the week before or on the day and announce it over the tannoy. Fancy dress would be good for this as it always attracts attention and therefore means you will collect more. Third and fourth division football clubs are especially good for this. If you do a couple of these that’s £1,000!
2. Car boot sales or coffee mornings – can raise £200 plus
3. Bag packing/collection at local supermarket – can raise £300 plus
Again rope in a few friends. You will need to get permission from the supermarket, they do book up well in advance so you will need to plan for this and contact them early.
4. Quiz night at local pub/local hall – can raise £300 plus
If your local pub already holds a quiz night, ask if the proceeds can be donated to the Foundation. Make sure that you advertise this in posters before hand, people will dip in to their pockets more readily! Speak to the landlord of your local pub to ask if you can hold a pub quiz to raise funds for the Foundation. If you choose a mid-week night the quiz should bring in more business for the pub, so ask the landlord if he will throw in a basic buffet for free and/or donate a percentage of the bar takings.
5. Themed party - £400
6. Donation rather then birthday presents
If you have a birthday coming up, ask for donations towards your sponsorship instead of presents.
7. Dress down day/non uniform day - £150
These work well in your children’s school or in the work place, charge each person £1/£2 to come in for the day in non uniform/casual dress.
8. Set up an online donation form and email to everyone - £400
Set up a personal online donation page at Virgin Money Giving. You can email this to all your friends who can then donate online, quickly and easy. They will have no excuse!
9. Fancy dress pub crawl – can raise £500 plus
This can be great fun. Again grab a few mates for this, do it in fancy dress, it can be very good fun! You will need to plan your route before hand and get permission from all the pubs involved to collect; you will not need a license, as this is private property. Ask the pubs to provide you all with a free drink when you go in and then charge your friends £10 to join the pub crawl, they will more then make up this money in free drinks.
