The National Institute for Clinical Excellence
NICE is responsible for providing national guidance on treatments and care for people using the NHS in England and Wales.
Since 2002, we have represented patients and carers on the NICE service guidance to improve outcomes for people with tumours of the brain and central nervous system (CNS) tumours. This guidance is due to be published in 2005.
As a patient and carer representative we have been able to share with the service development group the experiences of helpline callers affected by brain tumours and to ensure that their needs are addressed by the guidance.
We have also worked on guidance for people with head injury, children and young people with cancer and the treatment of brain aneurysms.
